RACE INFO
Dive into a 3.8km alpine lake swim at first light, the 12–15 °C water testing your focus as mist drifts over jagged peaks. Emerge onto a rocky shore, strip off your wetsuit, and hop onto your bike for 187km of relentless climbs—grades of 8–10 % carving through eucalyptus‑lined valleys—and heart‑pounding technical descents under crisp mountain air.
Transition to a 42.2 km trail marathon through rocky creek beds and high‑country meadows, where every step demands balance and grit. With only a handful of aid stations to refuel and rapidly shifting temperatures—from cool morning air to midday warmth—you’ll cross the finish on a windswept plateau, embraced by the silent grandeur of the Australian Alps.
expected weather conditions
Water temperature: 12-15C (53 to 73F)
Air temperature on the bike leg: 5 to 30C (41 to 86F)
Air temperature on the run leg (the valley): 12 to 20C (53 to 68F)
Air temperatures on the Kosciuszko range: 2 to 12C (35 to 53F)
The swim course could be moved to avoid dangerous conditions.
Extreme weather on the mountain can make it necessary for National Parks and Wildlife to close areas of Kosciuszko National Park. The Charlotte Pass or Rawson Pass checkpoint will then be closed and the athletes will have to finish at this checkpoint. The checkpoint might close at any time during the event. Fog and snow are the most likely reasons to close the checkpoint.

ON THE COURSE
As the Mount Kosciuszko National Park is an isolated area, it is important that competitors are equipped with basic equipment to help in case of an emergency. If you pass an injured runner, please stop to assist them until an AAAXtri staff member or until someone from medical arrives. Record how long you were stopped to assist and notify an AAAXtri staff (timing) at the end of the event and they will organise to adjust your time accordingly.
driving after the event
Even the support team members have had an extremely long, hard day. You may feel high on adrenalin after an exciting experience and fresh from cool mountain air, but this may change quickly while driving and you may become dangerously tired. Stay the night. We welcome everyone to attend the presentation ceremony breakfast at Rydges Jindabyne on Sunday morning before leaving for home.
